GPS tracking systems help heavy duty towing companies keep track of their fleet by installing tracking devices on each vehicle in the fleet. A driver can use a GPS tracking app on their smartphone to locate their vehicle’s location, speed, and estimated time of arrival at their next destination.

By using a GPS tracking system, a driver can avoid getting lost while towing and let their customer know when they will arrive at the destination.

    Remote Monitoring and Automated Hooking

Remote monitoring technology allows a towing company to monitor their vehicle’s status remotely, which is helpful for towing heavy duty vehicles.

When a driver hooks up to a heavy duty vehicle, the towing company’s dispatcher can use remote monitoring technology to check the status of the coupling. If the coupling is loose, the dispatcher can notify the driver by phone or a push notification, which will help the driver avoid a possible accident. If a coupling is too tight, it can cause damage to the coupling and the vehicle.

Remote monitoring also allows a dispatcher to monitor the status of the vehicle’s braking system. If the braking system seems to be malfunctioning, the dispatcher can notify the driver of the issue and recommend the driver have the vehicle inspected by a mechanic.

Smart Braking and Electronic Stability Control

Vehicle manufacturers are now equipping trucks with smart braking and electronic stability control. This technology helps to combat jackknifing and improves overall towing safety.

If a towing company is using vehicles that come with this technology, they may be able to reduce the amount of weight they are towing. This is due to the fact that brakes come with a standard weight capacity.

If the braking system is at its full capacity, the brakes may not work as effectively if they’re over the weight limit. In addition to allowing the brakes to work better, smart braking systems also provide a warning to the driver if the truck is approaching a dangerous situation. If the vehicle is on a hill or if the driver is going too fast, the braking system will let them know. This allows the driver to slow down or take corrective action before they jackknife or encounter another dangerous situation.
